3. Introduction to this Course

This is a 5-credit, one semester, compulsory course designed for students who are enrolled in the Masters in Education programme offered by WOU. To succeed in this course you should have a basic working knowledge on the use of computers, access to e-mail and the Internet, as well as familiarity with the various search engines to explore the World Wide Web.

This course is organised into five units addressing topics of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Education. Hence the course seeks to enhance your skills in using ICT in education. You will be further equipped with the skills needed to implement ICT in the curriculum transaction, including skills in using computer hardware, software and connectivity for effective instruction. Having enrolled for this course, you will be able to select and organise materials, equipment, and technological tools needed to conduct instruction and accomplish the desired educational outcomes.

It is also useful to note that this course is developed using Open Educational Resources (OERs) to direct and facilitate your learning process. The term OER here refers to educational resources and materials that are freely available for use and reuse, and adaptation and sharing. When you go through the course, you will find lots of references to OER materials. The incorporation of OERs permits you to access and peruse an array of relevant resources that would enhance your understanding of this course, and to subsequently appreciate the subtle, yet convincing, integration of ICT in the teaching and learning process.
