Unit 1 Introduction to ICT
Unit Overview
This unit draws your attention to the important role that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays in our daily lives and describes the emergence of this revolution in the latter part of the 20th century. This unit will also give you the background knowledge to follow the rest of the Course EED502/05 ICT in Education.
There are no pre-requisites to this course though you should have a basic working knowledge on the use of computers, to access e-mails, the Internet as well as familiarity with the various search engines to explore the World Wide Web.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, you should be able to:
- Trace the evolution of the information and communication technologies.
- Describe the ICT role and impact on human societies.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills of the different concepts related to the use of ICT to enhance the learning environment.
- Analyse the characteristics and scope of ICT as tools for teaching and learning.
- Use ICT to effectively support the delivery of lessons in different disciplines.
