In this section, you learnt about the concept and purpose of developing an Educational Management Information System (EMIS) for effective planning and management of education in a country. You saw that the application of technology for EMIS development has been one of the major shifts in EMIS development in addition to others. There have been major challenges and opportunities in the setting up of EMIS in developing countries as seen in the Sub-saharan African countries. You also learnt about use of EMIS by the education system in Malaysia. While the Malaysian experience may not show the extent of challenges in other developing countries, it also has its own issues and problems which will have to be addressed.
